The Socio-Cultural Context of HIV Risk for Transgender Adults

Fri, November 13, 5:00 to 6:15pm, Hilton Chicago, Floor: Third Floor, Williford A

Abstract

This paper contributes to the literature on HIV risk in the transgender community by examining the relationship between contextual factors, risk behaviors, and the adoption of safer sexual practices. Semi-structured interviews with transgender adults were analyzed via constant comparative techniques to identify contextual factors influencing sexual risks and relationships. Seven aspects of the transgender experience created a unique context of risk.
