This paper uses a narrative to examine how racism may impact Black and White interracial couples. Though interracial couples are more common today, current literature is sparse. The study breaks new ground by giving interracial couples a voice in Communication literature. General Systems Theory (Von Bertalanffy, 1967) and Rortys (1989) concept of language as a communication barrier are the theoretical framework guiding this project. Theses theories provide new avenues for studying racism in the future.
