In this study, we problematize interpreters emotional support to patients, a behavior often found in interpreters practice but rarely critically examined in the literature. We conducted in-depth interviews and focus groups with and 39 providers (from 5 specialties). We identified four distinctive views of providers understanding and expectations of interpreters emotional support. Our findings also highlight several issues that are rarely critically and systematically examined in the literature.
