Predicted Outcome Value Theory (Sunnafrank, 1986) argues that individuals predict the value of their partners, and communicate accordingly. This study examined spouses flirtatious behaviors and motivations, relational maintenance, commitment, and satisfaction utilizing POV. Participants (N=164) reported flirting for exclusive relationship motives, to encourage sex, and to maintain the marriage. Women engaged in more maintenance behaviors and for exclusive relationship motives. The exclusive relationship motive and maintenance accounted for significant variance in perceived commitment and satisfaction.
