Using Peer Research in Communication Methods' Classes: A Case Study

Thu, November 12, 2:30 to 4:00pm, Hilton Chicago, Floor: Second Floor, Normandie Lounge

Abstract

This study examines the utility of engaging undergraduate students in peer research projects involving health themes in communication methods courses. Participants designed focus groups on the topics of HIV testing and campus drinking culture after receiving specialized training from university personnel. Participants reported personal benefits from engaging in the research projects such as learning skills that were applicable to other situations. Suggestions are offered for practitioners who might be considering similar projects for their students.
