Friendship Maintenance Expectations: Who I Am, Who You Are, and What We Do Together

Abstract

Using diary method, 89 participants reported interactions with three types of friends (best, close, casual) (N = 249) over five-day period, yielding 1,374 interactions. Whether friends met expectations for four types of friendship maintenance was predicted by friendship quality (Wright, 1997) and activities engaged in, and participant gender. Satisfaction with friends was related to sex and friendship quality.
