Understanding the Educational Needs of Students with Disabilities in Higher Education and Ensuring Equal Access

Abstract

There has been an increase in the number of students with disabilities attending higher education. Universities and colleges are required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to accommodate students with disabilities to ensure that they have equal access to any degree program that they are otherwise qualified for. Increases in the number of students with disabilities continuing their education has resulted from a better understanding of the abilities of people with cognitive disabilities.
