Abstract

In this paper I investigate and examine the ethical issues inherent in the experience of insider/outsider researchers who are studying cultures or communities that they are members of. Based on my research of a rural, black community in central North Carolina where I grew up I discuss the challenges and advantages of working from the inside out and offer strategies for researchers studying intimate sites.
