Participatory Communication: An Exploratory Study of Organisational Listening Competency

Abstract

The pilot study introduces data analysis through the framework of the norms of communicative action, as measured by criteria derived from the participatory communication model. Findings provide examples of qualities considered by stakeholders and organisation members to be associated with participatory and non-participatory communication, during stakeholder-organisation consultations. Preliminary results participatory communication criteria could provide organisations with a deeper understanding of how competent listening practices are/ are not achieved, during consultations between organisations and their stakeholders.
