The present study examined the contradictions in Long Distance Romantic Relationships (LDRR), the management of these tensions, and the channels couples used to facilitate their communication. The results revealed that a) individuals used certain channels for specific reasons and to accomplish various goals; b) individuals experienced the togetherness-apart, certainty-uncertainty, independence-connection, and presence-absence dialectic; and c) individuals engaged in talk, communication and relationship rituals, face-to-face time, and assumed responsibility for the distance or placed responsibility elsewhere.
