Micromomentary Organizations and Institutional Subversion: A Case Analysis of the Buck-A-Person for Relief Fund

Thu, November 12, 9:30 to 10:45am, Hilton Chicago, Floor: Fourth Floor, Meeting Room 4C

Abstract

As organizational communication scholarship moves towards macro-level theorizing of organizing, scholarship must both note the ways organizations conform to institutionalized pressures as well as resist them. While institutional theory does serve to explain similarities across organizations, there are unique structural differences, especially within the nonprofit sector, that negate the presence of institutionalism. The following case study explores the ways Buck-A-Person for Relief Fund, was able to resist institutional conformity through the use of institutional subversion.
