This study extends prior research on computer-mediated communication examining relational maintenance behaviors via CMC. While research focuses on the initiation of relationships, less research explores the maintenance of relationships through CMC. As relationships are cultivated via mediated channels, this study explores whether people utilize maintenance strategies as the relationship progresses. Results indicate that, overwhelmingly, females use more maintenance strategies via CMC than males, and maintenance strategies have remained consistent through the advent of new technology.
