The interpersonal communication motives theory; uses and gratifications; and social cognitive theory posit that individuals have specific motives for personal and mediated communication. These theories were used to compare individualsÂ’ incentives for using online social network sites (SNS) between high/low frequency users and younger/older users. A MANOVA revealed that high frequency and younger users are more likely to use SNS for specific motivations (e.g., pleasure, escape, control, passing time, utility, novelty and habit).
