Advice outcomes are influenced by the recipients receptiveness, or willingness to receive advice from another person. The current study examines characteristics of the recipient, source, and problem as predictors of receptiveness. 143 participants completed measures of these characteristics and receptiveness prior to conversing about a current problem with a friend. Receptiveness was positively predicted by recipient expressivity, the friends expertise, uncertainty about a solution for the problem, and prior problem-solving effort.
