Learning the White Ropes: A Reflective Examination of the Impact of the Invisibility of Race on Scholars of Color

Abstract

Ashcraft and Allen (2003) contend that unless we address the issue of invisibility of race within organizational communication, that we are in danger of continuing to create ‘White scholars’. Offering a contemporary version of “Learning the Ropes” (Allen, 2000) we engage in a dialogic reflection of that the “Whiteness” of the field has had on our own development as 2nd generation scholars of color in organizational communication.
