If You Rub My Back, I'll Rub Yours: Toward a Model of Sexual Sacrifice and Intimate Support

Abstract

This proposal aims to understand the nature of sexual sacrifices and how they might impact relationship commitment, satisfaction and closeness. Furthermore, this proposal highlights the need for a construct of intimate support, and demonstrates its applicability within the context of sexual sacrifice. Prior research does not address the role of intimate support behaviors and sexual sacrifices within romantic relationships. Consequently, this paper proposes a new model that attempts to explain these relational maintenance behaviors.
