The purpose of this project was to examine junior faculty perceptions of roles and expectations related to achieving tenure. We utilized a mixed-method approach conducting quantitative and qualitative surveys, as well a rhetorical analysis of promotion and tenure policies using Fantasy Theme Analysis. The findings from the study illustrate the continued presence of the Publish or Perish syndrome as well as other significant issues related to role conflict within the context of the tenure process.
