Courage has many implicit connections with the study of organizational leadership and followership. Jablin (2006) called for communication scholars to examine the soft and fuzzy concept of courage to explicate how it can be applied to communication studies. This essay reviews the literature on courage from philosophy, psychology, and management perspectives as well as literature in the communication discipline. Additionally, the Exit, Voice, Loyalty, and Neglect (EVLN) model along with research on dissent are reviewed.
