Health, Religion, and Meaning: A Culture-centered Study of Druze Women

Sat, November 14, 2:00 to 3:15pm, Hilton Chicago, Floor: Fourth Floor, Meeting Room 4J

Abstract

In this project, we engage in in-depth interviews and informal conversations with elderly Druze women and their daughters to develop an understanding of the intersections of religion and health meanings in the context of aging women in this community. Our discursive journey with the elderly Druze women offers an entry point toward understanding the fragmented and contested nature of health meanings as religion, biomedicine and culture are negotiated in the realm of aging.
