This study examined the influence of relational turbulence on victim and perpetrator accounts of hurtful incidents. Each couple provided data for two hurtful events that occurred in their relationship: one when the female was the victim of hurt and one when the male was the victim of hurt. Hypotheses were tested using an actor-partner interdependence model. Our study offers a dyadic perspective on how relationship qualities exacerbate emotional responses to hurtful incidents in romantic relationships.
