Session Submission Type: Panel Discussion
This panel addresses the rhetorical discourses, logics, and technologies of government producing and shaping contemporary debates about sciences role in improving humanity (biopolitics) and technologies roles in managing uncertainty, risk, and dangerousness (e.g., surveillance). The panel fundamentally concerns stabilization because the rhetorics and logics examined operate to produce the present through normalization and optimization on the one hand, and marginalization and enclosure on the other. Critical examination of these rhetorical discourses, logics and practices offers opportunity for change by deconstructing taken for granted assumptions and privileged hierarchical relationships.
