Session Submission Type: Paper Session
Surprisingly little organizational communication research has been dedicated to the study of socio-economic class, yet this intergroup classification plays a central role in the communication of culture, status, and stigma. Brenda Allen has argued that class is a social construction. However, we know little about how class is socially constructed, how it is resisted, and the multiple functions it serves in society. In other words, how do we do class and what does class do? This panel begins the process of addressing that question.
