This paper presents a discourse analysis of the social-justice nonprofit To Write Love on Her Arms, which uses its subcultural capital within the American indie music scene to make an argument for social engagement. Findings center on the organization's creation of a narrative argument. In a time when many are anxiously wondering about the future of democracy, this examination may well yield insights on emerging ideals and practices.
