20. From Cinderella to Bella: A Feminist Critique using Fairy Tales and Frames to Analyze Twilight

Sun, November 14, 2:00 to 3:30pm, Hilton San Francisco, Floor: Ballroom Level, Yosemite Foyer

Abstract

Considering Twilight’s fan demographics, it is important to understand how Twilight portrays romantic relationships. This analysis focused on the two central characters of the series, Bella and Edward. This research identified gender and relationship themes by comparing the text to fairy tales, and then utilized a feminist critique to analyze the themes. Lastly, the Burkean poetic frames were utilized to discuss the implied framing of characters, compared to the framing of the characters’ actions.
