17. Globalization and emplaced mobility A report on initial findings of research in Concepción, Chile

Mon, November 15, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Hilton San Francisco, Floor: Ballroom Level, Yosemite Foyer

Abstract

In the context of globalization, places are increasingly enmeshed in economic, technological, and political relations, while populations are characterized by new forms of mobility and connectivity. In such a context, how people construct a sense of place? I argue for the importance of new empirical research in critical and cultural studies, and I report on my recent fieldwork carried out in the city of Concepción, a major urban center in southern Chile.
