This paper reappraises the role of the Black Panther Party in the development of the Black Studies Movement at Merritt College and San Francisco State University from 1966 to 1970. It examines the emergence of the Black Studies Movement at Merritt College and San Francisco State University. It also identifies Black Panthers who helped to develop the Afro-American Studies Department at Merritt College and the Black Studies Department at San Francisco State University. In addition, it examines the role of The Black Panther in fomenting the Black Studies Movement from the 1967 to 1970 period as well as some implications of the research.
