This paper will examine the predominant theme of love in three of James Baldwin's texts--Giovanni's Room, If Beale Street Could Talk, and primarily Amen Corner. Baldwin's texts evidence the importance of love as well as the devastating consequences of the lack of love. This paper ultimately argues that Baldwin's seminal play The Amen Corner is Baldwin's love letter to the Black Church and its amazing possibilities.
