This paper examines Toni Cade Bambara and her contributions to “Black Studies” as it emerges in 1968 to the wider academy. It argues that Toni Cade Bambara produced important works and texts that enhanced awareness for the language import of Black Studies. This paper also argues that Toni Cade Bambara’s maieutic or intellectual midwifery serves as a poiesis to the art of Black Studies.
