Investigating the impact of test wiseness in multiple response items: A simulation study

Abstract

This simulation investigated ability estimation accuracy for multiple response (MR) items when manipulating: (a) item stem presentation; (b) item structure design; (c) number of keys; (d) scoring method; (e) test wiseness; and (f) test length. Results suggest test wissness and item scoring decisions can bias ability estimation in MR items.
