Developing and considering an item response model which captures inattention fluctuations

Abstract

This study proposed an item response model which eliminates the effects of inattentive
responses in self-report surveys with anchoring vignettes. Simulation studies showed that the
proposed model estimated item discrimination and high trait values better than existing
models. A numerical example also delivered practical guidelines to design such questionnaires.
