A Better Place to Be- Reclaiming History for Political Theory

Sat, November 12, 8:15 to 9:30am, Omni Parker, Floor: Mezzanine, Brandeis

Abstract

Political Theory and History and Politics are two great sub-fields of Political Science, but they are often disconnected from each other. This project is to create a theory of history, with a system of careful considered periodization that works with political theory. The greater project is to create a unified theory of politics, which requires a theory of history and proper system of periodization. The article will categorize the three great civilizations of the Old World- Western, Eastern, and Central, and create periods for each of these three civilizations. The idea is to try to match up periods across civilizations as much as possible without artificially standardizing periods across civilizations. This sets up the empirical work needed to formulate and support a unified theory of politics. The ultimate greater project is to be able to compare any state in a civilization to any other state in nay civilization, in any period of history.
