This paper presents the debate on using restorative justice (RJ) for cases of domestic violence (DV). 20 peer-reviewed journal articles from between 2000 to 2022 were reviewed for this paper. This paper first discusses why RJ has emerged as an option for DV survivors, particularly for survivors who hold marginalized racial, gender, and sexual identities. The paper then discusses how survivors can benefit from engaging in an RJ process, either in tandem with or as an alternative to the traditional civil/criminal legal system. The paper goes on to discuss major criticisms and limitations of using RJ for DV and concludes with the implications of this ongoing debate for DV policy.
