Capitalism and Conservation

Thu, November 14, 8:30 to 10:00am, Omni Parker Mezzanine, Louisa May Alcott A

Abstract

As capitalism continues to grow it outgrows the natural environment. Global Capitalism and the corporations that make it up have always assumed a stable environment and atmosphere. It has been the backdrop of value which capitalism has played in front of. But, what happens when conserving the environment becomes the only way to continue capitalist growth? Through the lens of the paper, conservation areas might be the most capitalist institutional units of the future. I explore current day scenarios where large parts of the earth are being sectioned off as conservation areas for the benefit of the global climate as a result of the green house gas emissions from global corporations.
