Thinking Sex: Why Every Political Science Student Should Read Gayle Rubin

Fri, November 15, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Omni Parker Mezzanine, Brandeis

Abstract

This paper offers instructive insight into why queer theory should be part of every student of political science's education. Using Rubin's essay "Thinking Sex", the paper examines how sexuality is central to the important questions of political science. Rubin's work offers several important lessons, skills, analytic frameworks, and political positionings that, to this day, remain understudied and under appreciated -- not just in political science broadly, but also political theory, where queer theory might be more comfortably housed.
