Centering Schools in LGBTQ Politics

Fri, November 15, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Omni Parker Mezzanine, Brandeis

Abstract

This paper argues for LGBTQ political science courses to pay more attention to schools as important locations of political activism worthy of study. Most LGBTQ political science courses likely focus on courts and legislatures as important sites of political action. But, as this paper argues, schools are also active in the regulation of sexuality and gender and areas of political organizing. As such, we need to look more closely at schools and center them in our understanding of LGBTQ Political Science.
