LGBTQ Law: Moving Beyond Marriage and Non-Discrimination

Fri, November 15, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Omni Parker Mezzanine, Brandeis

Abstract

This paper presents an overview of ways to add LGBTQ issues to courses on law and politics that move beyond the traditional topics of marriage and non-discrimination law. This includes criminal justice system, administrative law, immigration, free speech and obscenity, and religious freedom. Many of these topics are routinely featured in civil rights or constitutional law courses (among others), but in teaching these issues, less attention is focused on the cases involving LGBTQ issues. This paper will offer suggestions for topics and resources to help faculty queer their law courses.
