Environmental Foreign Policies in the Global South: Centering the Smallest States

Sat, November 16, 9:45 to 11:45am, Omni Parker Mezzanine, Gardener Room

Abstract

With the intense global focus about climate change, environmentalism has become a human security issue relevant to both IR theory and practice. For the smallest states, it has indeed become a matter of high security, affecting their developmental, as well as diplomatic, strategies. This presentation elaborates the results of the presenter’s research on the issue as it effects small Himalayan states as well as the Guianas based on, inter alia, the presenter’s Fulbright experiences, and offers suggestions on theorizing as well as teaching in this area.
