Abstract

This paper examines public opinion toward statehood for Washington D.C. at the national and local level over time. It examines the variables that have influenced support for statehood over the past four decades as the movement for statehood has gained momentum. It analyzes how support for D.C. statehood compares to other statehood movements where public opinion is available.
