Biden's Foreign Policy Doctrine:A Mixed Legacy

Sat, November 8, 9:45 to 11:45am, Warwick Hotel Rittenhouse Square, Floor: 3rd, Cherry Room

Abstract

President Joe Biden took office in January 2021 promising a new era for the United States on the global stage, rejecting the disruptive Trump years in favor of rebuilding our alliances, and demonstrating that we can deliver democracy at home and abroad to overcome the noxious rule of autocracies. His major premise was that the United States foreign policy centered on the "Biden Doctrine",which would focus on competition with the world's other major superpower,China.
Four years later we have learned that President Biden has had to deal with the world as it has changed, including:the war by longtime foe Vladimir Putin with Ukraine;the war in the Gaza Region of the Middle East;and the role of terrorist regimes of Iran and North Korea in seeking to disrupt the international world arena. This paper will provide a summary evaluation of the Biden Foreign Policy Doctrine in achieving its legacy at the conclusion of President Biden's term of office. My presentation will be joined by my CURCA Research Scholar Assistant,Carsyn Ide.
