Political Strategy That Wins: Messaging and Leadership from the Trenches

Thu, November 6, 4:00 to 5:30pm, Warwick Hotel Rittenhouse Square, Floor: 3rd, Juniper Room

Abstract

With 30 years in political consulting, including my tenure as Director of Grassroots during Florida's 2000 Presidential election and subsequent recount and Executive Director of the Republican Party of Florida, I’ve seen what makes campaigns and policies succeed—or fail. This paper distills those lessons into a framework for winning political strategy, rooted in strategic messaging and leadership development. Drawing from high-stakes campaigns, my media commentary (Fox News, Politico, BBC), and my Amazon #1 New Release, American Speeches That Changed History, I argue that effective politics hinges on clear, compelling communication paired with decisive action. From grassroots mobilization to crisis navigation, I’ll break down real-world examples—like shaping Florida’s GOP playbook—and connect them to timeless principles from historic speeches. Attendees will leave with practical tools to craft messages that resonate and lead teams that deliver, whether in elections or governance. As a UF Public Relations alum and seasoned strategist endorsed by Ed Rollins (former White House Political Director), I bring an insider’s perspective that bridges theory and practice. This session offers political scientists and professionals actionable insights into today’s chaotic landscape—because politics is not only about ideas, but also results.
