Since the “successful” 2010 Gay Pride Parade in Serbia, a chasm has developed within LGBTQ circles in the Balkans. This paper examines the rise of lesbian separatism, the depoliticization of the gay elite, capitalist neoliberal NGO-ization of LGBT work, and efforts to reinvigorate the historically radical queer movement in the Balkans. Using a decolonial, transnational feminist methodology and framework, I present particular findings from fieldwork conducted in 2015-2016. This paper looks at the ways local feminists are modifying and adapting radical feminism and black feminist texts from 1970s to create a new form of queer and feminist resistance in Serbia.
