Making just futures irresistible: Never Alone and video game futures

Sat, Nov 16, 3:20 to 4:35pm, Hilton Union Square, Floor: Tower 3, 4th Floor, Union Square 19 (LCD)

Abstract

Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna) is a video game puzzle platformer produced in collaboration with the IƱupiat, an Alaska Native people, the Cook Inlet Tribal Council, and E-line Media, a traditional video game company. Never Alone is interesting in both its origin story- a financial future for a tribal council- and in its participatory design elements. Relationship building, interdependence, and sovereignty are main design elements of this game and Never Alone is an example of finding games in unexpected places that move us closer to the just world to which we aspire.
