Teachers Making Sense of Fraction Multiplication with an Area Model

Description

This report shares how teachers make sense of fraction multiplication through a provided area model. Teachers participated in a professional development focused on rational numbers. During Day 2, teachers were asked to complete an exit ticket with an area model. Transcribed responses were coded with four a priori codes focused on how teachers saw multiplication in the model and what features of the model they attended to in their responses. The discussion raises ideas about the potential of a teacher learning trajectory.
