Shaping Mathematics Teacher Identity: The Role of Instructional Rehearsals in Pre-Service Teacher Development

Description

We explore the reasons PSTs gave for observed shifts in their mathematics-related teacher identities through participation in teaching rehearsals. Analyzing PSTs’ responses to a single-item identity overlap measure, we noted five main themes. Findings illustrate that opportunities to practice teaching can build competence and professional identity for PSTs, emphasizing the value of integrating teaching experiences, like rehearsals, into methods courses.
