Description

This new working group centers on mathematics as a vehicle for engaged citizenship, exploring its potential to advance student agency in tackling social injustices as a citizen. While research highlights the civic dimensions of mathematics education, there remains a gap in practical implementation within classrooms. Over the sessions, participants will (1) establish existing theoretical foundations drawing from research on mathematics and citizenship education (2) examine instructional practices and teacher education approaches that integrate citizenship education, and (3) collaborate on a research agenda to advance this work in the state-of-the-art of the field.
