Schools in remote areas of Thailand largely serve economically disadvantaged students, non-Thai nationality students, novice monks, and Muslim students. Many of these students enter the workforce after they complete basic education or study in vocational education. As a result, the disconnection between mathematics and real world is one of the major challenges for schools in these remoted areas. Guided by the principles from Realistic Mathematics Education (RME), the Comprehensive Mathematics Learning Package (CMLP), which is a set of teaching and learning materials for middle schools located in remote areas across Thailand, was developed address this challenge. This study was guide by a question “What were teachers’ perceptions about the benefits and challenges when implementing CMLP in their classrooms?” The CMLP was piloted in eleven target schools. Lessons were designed based on local and career-related contexts. The results highlighted both the benefits and challenges teachers perceived in implementing the CMLP.
