This poster is a proposal that looks at the Participation-attachment-commitment-membership (PACM) model proposed by Furlong and colleagues (2003). An emerging concern about how students are engaged by their teachers in the mathematics classroom calls for an investigation into this matter. Thus, using the PACM model, we intend to first investigate mathematics teachers' understanding of engagement. Building on the findings, we intend to develop interventions to remediate aspects of engagement that mathematics teachers have overlooked.
