Despite decades of successful comprehensive investment to support reading achievement in Florida, little attention has been provided to mathematics. In response to declining mathematics performance, increasing numbers of mathematics teacher positions unfilled, and large numbers of mathematics-intensive jobs left unfilled, this study reveals findings and policy recommendations of a state-wide listening tour. As part of a larger project, this study draws on a rich dataset of 394 focus group participants and 4,452 survey respondents to investigate perceptions of the utility of mathematics, current benefits and challenges in mathematics education, and stakeholder recommendations to improve mathematics education across the state of Florida. A set of policy recommendations are discussed.
