Reimagining mathematics teaching for social issues: insights from a teacher workshop

This study examines how professional development can support teachers in integrating social issues into their instruction. We conducted a mini-course workshop with seven middle and secondary school teachers, guiding them through the process of analyzing, categorizing, and modifying traditional math problems to promote critical thinking. We introduced a questioning framework designed to facilitate meaningful classroom discussions. In this paper we describe the structure of the workshop, the proposed framework, and teachers’ initial perspectives on its use.
