Labor limae: Elegies and Epigrams in Autograph Manuscripts

Sat, March 28, 10:30am to 12:00pm, Hegelplatz, Dorotheenstrasse 24/3, Floor: Second Floor, 3.231

Abstract

This contribution is about the autograph manuscripts by Sannazaro, Elegies and Epigrams, kept in the Vatican Library (Vat. Lat. 3361), Ambrosian Library of Milan (Z 98 sup.) and National Library of Wien (Vindob. Lat. 9477 and 9977). They are a special document of the author’s numerous variants, which have been organized in diachronic order, so as to show Sannazaro’s poetic talent in Latin and his philological and antiquarian studies, which inform his poetry. An interesting specimen of this work is the analysis of Elegy to king Federico d’Aragona, that exist in three drafts in Vat. Lat. 3361 and Vindob. Lat. 9477: through a textual analysis a reconstruction of the last events of the Aragonese monarchy and his faithful affiliation with the last Aragonese King will be provided.
